Norte awakened to the sounds of his father's voice. A small campfire was set not far from where he has passed out. Ryhasola was sound asleep inside a canvas sleeping bag as Norte strained his eyes in the far off to make out the figure sitting next to his father.
"The great city of Thygearemus! If AB is the information center of this world, I guess Thygearemus would be its technological equivalent.", Adder bit into some chicken the man named Ted had given him. About 20 years ago the great city of Thygearemus fell into the Cross Ocean.
"Fell?" Ted Copper Steelman briefly turned his attention towards Norte waiting for a response from Master Adder.
Adder wiped his mouth and gulped some water, after which he decided to answer Ted's question in detail. "Thygearemus started out like a normal continent. But with more funding from private organizations and technological advancements…they developed what is now known as mass levitation. Before you even ask, it was an immense scientifically engineered floatation device placed in the heart of Thygearemus.
The mass levitation allowed them the float high in the sky at the press of a few buttons. Soon after that invention was perfected they never touch the planet again and remained a floating continent.' Master Added having said all that fixed his eyes on Norte too. Norte had taken a stick and was poking at the sleeping woman near him. Ryhasola swatted air and motioned for Norte to bug off!
"I do have some faint recollection of seeing the sky up close when I was a baby. But when you said Red Sky earlier…my hair stood on end. What is Red Sky old man?", Ted sat waiting for a response.
Our world is based solely around mathematics in nature and religion. Though every group or individual may have slightly different views or opinions, they still live in a world that has a staple of rules and protocol. The day the engines failed on Thygearemus comes to no surprise to anyone in AB. Mathematically, no scientifically you can't constantly go against the laws of gravity. Fireballs lit up all over Lavi Sorraha and Mis Le Mis on that day as everyone watched the greatest technological race genocide themselves."
Norte was practicing cartwheels in the moonlight as Adder stood up to greet the boy.
Ted Copper Steelman sat there paralyzed by the words just given to him. Every possible thing he could think up as a response to the slightly older Adder came out at a lump in the throat. Copper just laid there.
"Papa! Who is that man!?", the young boy gripped his fathers leg. Adder looked relieved that his son had so much energy. "Never mind that. We need to get some sleep for our impromptu meeting with Lord Vosce tomorrow."
Ted Copper finally gets the mental composure to say something to the two. ,"I was born on that day. Red Sky. I can feel that deep down. But luckily for me I didn't die and was raised here in Mis Le Mis like a normal boy. When I was a kid, I always wanted to meet Lord Vosce but you know…I never got the chance. With his vast knowledge of the world, I'm sure he can tell me more about Thygearemus."
Norte squints through the fire light at the dusty looking stranger. "You can come with us. But you really should at least put some shoes on in the presence of the great Lord Vosce."
Ted smirks and shrugs. Shortly after that he huddles up next to the three Calculators as the fire dies down a little.
The glaring golden sunrise drowned out the dwindling log fire and disturbed the beautiful Ryhasola so that she jumped up immediately. Her hand affixed to her dagger the woman looked around at the three sleeping men. Upon seeing Ted, she realized that last nights evens were not a nightmare but reality.
Ted awakened next. Slumping up slow as only he can, and brushing chicken bones off of his faded brown denim. In a holster on his side was a surprisingly small hand cannon with a faded inscription written on it.
Ryhasola as if continuing some part of Norte's sick twisted game the night before, immediately grabbed a branch and started poking at the boy. Norte cried out and kicked all while keeping his eyes closed. The woman glanced over at Ted to show her miniscule triumph but Ted just looked up into the sky.
Grabbing his satchel full of broken machine parts, he gets up and begins to start the journey into Vosce capitol. The scraping, squealing, and clacking of Ted's bag of metal parts quickly stirred Adder and his son. Within minutes the four were all wide awake and packed up. Without so much as a word, they continued their trek around the massive garden towards the large Vosce capitol.
"I've read a lot about ancient Thygearian society. But because there aren't many of your kind left in the world, I was wondering if you could maybe clear up a few of the discrepancies for me.," Master Adder said all this in one hurried breathe to avoid upsetting the stranger anymore.
Ted swatted away some hanging vines as he nodded for man to continue.
"Well when I was younger I read a book on Thygearian abilities. It said that unlike Calculators and other races that you are not born with your powers of intellect are and metal manipulation." Norte looks up at the man with no shoes after his father says that.
"Poppa! That is the book of Lamentia. Ah, Lamentia, the written log of every single being in known to exist in our world."
Ryhasola and Ted both look down at the boy who couldn't have been more that nine years old. They both looked amazed that the young Calculator had any knowledge on this subject.
Ted directs his next statement to the boy. "From all my travels over the world, I've never met anyone quite like myself so I can only speak for me. When I was around your age, I had no superior knowledge of the way machines worked and I definitely couldn't manipulate them. Over the course of the last seven years, working with the Goths, I have gained an extreme grasp of my unlimited potential." Ryhasola and Norte stop once they hear the name Goth. Ted finishes his thought. "Adder…that is why you called me a traitor to my race yesterday…is it not?"
Master Adder looks over at his to stopped comrades while he kept walking. "The Goth's have a hold over fifty percent of the lands and people on this planet. Though they are not direct enemies of AB, indirectly they are a fierce threat to everyone's individuality. Why I don't know the details of what you were helping them with, I shudder in fear to think what they might conjure up with a mind like yours."
When Adder finishes his little speech he looks over at Ted Copper Steelman. Ted closes his eyes in a shameful manner and looks away. Ryhasola, Norte, Master Adder and Ted Copper Steelman had finally reached the grey ivy walls of Vosce capitol.
A lonely moan of a woman can be heard from the ground beneath them. Everyone tries to move but there legs begin to sink at the gates of Vosce. Suddenly four pairs of arms lunge out of the moist soil and grips the traveler's feet. Within seconds, the three Calculators and the Thygearist were dragged underground.
The connecting fields of rye and wheat wore the markings of a recent brush fire. In the glow of the still glorious sun, Lake River's pink sequined uniform shone with an iridescent polish. Voih and the other Calculators punched in figures on their devices while Lake, tired from walking all night, decided to lye down on the hot grass.
"There is a seventy-seven percent chance that these burnt crops are the result of arson.", One of the Calculators made this bold statement while staring off into the distance.
Lake removes his sunglasses for a minute and motions as if he is about the give an explanation for the recent event. He then opts instead to take a swig from a sterling silver flask he had on him.
‘These are some kind of tracks, here." Voih says this as he plants his hand on the ground trying to figure out which direction the treads led. Just before every Calculator starts punching numbers Lake Rivers stands up posing like he had something of importance to say." The flames were a marker. From the looks of the ashy crops, they are only a few hours old."
The pink sequined man extents his burly left arm and points a finger towards the coast. "Demons, it seems, are not Mis Le Mis's chief concern right now." Even you all don't need a Calculator to understand what the marker is."
Voih pulls himself up and runs over to Lake Rivers. Gripping his collar shouts directly in River's face. "Who would proclaim war on the information hub of the universe? Tell me Barbarian who? The Goths need us to filter facts and detect traitors among themselves. The Lavi are our allies and friends. Any other race has neither the sophistication nor military to attempt this sort of foolishness. So who is our enemy?" Voih grips the pink glittery collar even harder choking Lake's response out of him.
The tight grip loosens as blood starts to spill on the dry ground. All of the Calculators circle in just enough to see Lake River's bloodied dagger slide out of Voih's stomach. Voih backs up clutching his stomach and coughing up blood. Three translucent minotaur appear out of thin air and lay siege onto the lot of Adders.
While Voih lay there screaming, The huge tusks of the transparent beasts were bludgeoning and goring all the screaming Adders. What little attacks the group managed to get out was insufficient. The battle was very one sided and over in an instant.
"This was…this was your plan the whole time.', Voih gurgles this across the way as his friends are being dismembered around him. "My father never liked your kind anyway." Lake's eyes turn red as he raises his hand in the same direction again.
"Who is your father? What are you?"...a weakened Voih grunts out. At that point, Lake Rivers passes out leaving what looked to be another translucent humanoid figure. "I am the great Prince Vosce! "You were possessing him prince? Why? Why would you do all of this if you are to be our savior." Voih curled up from the pain of the fresh dagger wound.
The figure began to materialize right in front of Voih and Lake. His face was horribly burned and he wore a thick velvet green robe. "I became a Master Green wizard by going to hell and striking down Satan himself. Miserable humanity deserves no other recourse than death by my hand. I have come from the beyond...to make everything burn."
